C-talk Startup Guide

Thanks for choosing a phone system from C-talk. We would like to help make the experience of using a C-talk phone system as smooth as possible. This guide will show you all the important things you need to know to use your C-talk phone system effectively. Please familiarise yourself with it. If you would like any help with the topics explained in here, please feel free to contact us for more help.

Please Note: This Startup guide is for customers who use a direct IP setup - eg. IP Phones and Softphones connected directly to us.  It is not for customers with a phone system installed by a local company - in that instance, your phone system company will provide instructions on using your phone services.  If you're not sure which category you fit into, please contact us.

Voicemail
The first thing important thing to do is record the voicemail messages that people will hear 1. When they ring in and there is no answer, or 2. When you are engaged. With a C-talk phone system, there are separate messages you record for each of those scenarios.

To record your primary Voicemail messages (Do this on your PRIMARY phone) :

  1. Dial *55 on your phone. You will hear a menu.
  2. Press 0 to access Voicemail options.
  3. Press 1 to record your Unavailable message. This is the message that is played if there is no answer to a phone call. Follow the prompts to record, replay and then save the message.
  4. Once the first message is saved, press 2 to record your Busy message. This is the message that is played if all lines are engaged when someone rings in. Follow the prompts as before to record, replay and save the Busy message.

Once saved, you may hang up the phone. Your Voicemail messages are now recorded!

If you have other extensions with Voicemail enabled, you'll need to repeat the process on those extensions also.

You’ve got mail!
If you hear a series of beeps when you first pick up the phone, or your "message waiting" light/logo shows on your phone, you have a message on your voicemail. Dial *55 to enter Voicemail mode, then listen to hear the messages. Press 7 to delete the message you’re currently listening to.

Other cool Voicemail features available include:
  • Having your Voicemail messages emailed to you
  • Accessing your Voicemail messages remotely from another phone

To set either of these up please view the Voicemail Help Guide.

Transferring Calls
To transfer a call to another extension, or an external number:
  1. While on the phone, dial #0
  2. Wait for the prompt, then enter the extension or phone number you wish to transfer to
  3. The phone will ring the transfer destination. When the call is answered and you are ready to complete the transfer then hang up.

Call Waiting

By default, call waiting is activated on your line.

This means that if you’re on a call, and someone else calls in, you will hear a series of beeps in your ear indicating that another call is coming in.

You can switch to the other call by pressing the Flash/Recall button on your phone. You can switch back to the original call by pressing the Flash/Recall button again.  (Or you can use the "Line" buttons on your phone if you have an IP or softphone).

If you don’t pickup the 2nd incoming call, it will go to your “Unavailable” Voicemail (if turned on).

NOTE: With this default setup, your Voicemail BUSY message will not be used.

Turning Off Call Waiting
You can turn off Call Waiting for any line by dialling *81 from that line (or you can do it from the Web Portal). If you turn Call Waiting off, your Voicemail BUSY message will now be used if your line is engaged when someone dials in.

Dial *62 to turn Call Waiting back on again

Redial and last called number
Pick up and press *66 to dial the last called number

Pick up and press *51 to hear who last called you

Faxmail
Faxmail is a great service that delivers inbound faxes to your email inbox. This service is enabled by default if you have ported (transferred) your fax number to C-talk. The faxes will be delivered to the primary email address of the account holder in PDF form.

If you wish to use a different email address, or add extra email addresses for the faxes to be delivered to, please read the C-talk Faxmail Guide

You now are now ready to start using your new C-talk phone service!
Please read the specific Help Guides in the Help Articles Homepage to learn more about the amazing features of your new C-talk phone service.
